- Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk sugar, hot water, oil, and vanilla until dissolved and smooth.
- Combine: Gradually fold dry mixture into wet mixture. Stir gently until batter is smooth and lump-free.
- Bake: Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool & serve: Let cake cool before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar or frost with chocolate ganache if desired.
