A classic Chinese stir-fry—juicy beef, crisp onions, and peppers tossed in a savory sauce.

Ingredients

For the Marinade

  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

For the Stir-Fry

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1–2 bell peppers (red/green), sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Marinate beef: In a bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Toss beef slices and let sit 20–30 minutes.
  2. Sear beef: Heat 1 tbsp oil in a wok or skillet. Stir-fry beef until browned but not fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
  3. Sauté veggies: Add remaining oil. Stir-fry onion, peppers, and garlic until slightly softened.
  4. Combine: Return beef to pan. Add soy sauce, beef broth, and cornstarch slurry. Stir until sauce thickens and coats everything.
  5. Season: Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve: Enjoy hot over steamed rice or noodles.

  • Tender beef: Slice thinly against the grain and don’t overcook.
  • Extra flavor: Add a splash of Shaoxing wine or rice vinegar.
