Soft, Fluffy, Sugar-Coated Italian Doughnuts 🤍🍩✨

Golden, airy doughnuts rolled in sugar—classic Italian style, with optional creamy or chocolatey fillings.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 2ÂĽ tsp (7 g) instant yeast
  • ½ tsp (3 g) salt
  • Âľ cup (180 ml) warm milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ÂĽ cup (60 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • Extra sugar, for coating
  • Optional filling: custard, chocolate spread, or jam

Directions

  1. Make dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, eggs, butter, and vanilla. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead: Knead dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Shape: Punch down dough. Divide into small balls (about 12–15). Place on a tray, cover, and let rise 30 minutes.
  5. Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes per side.
  6. Coat: Drain on paper towels. Roll warm doughnuts in sugar.
  7. Optional filling: Use a piping bag to fill with custard, chocolate spread, or jam.
  8. Serve: Enjoy fresh and fluffy, best eaten warm.

Tips

  • Extra fluffy: Let dough rise slowly in a warm spot for best texture.
  • Flavor twist: Add lemon zest or orange zest to the dough for a citrus note.
  • Storage: Best eaten same day, but can be reheated lightly in oven.
