These fritters are light, crispy, and packed with onion flavor—perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side dish!

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, finely diced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for extra crispiness)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • Oil for frying
  • Chopped chives or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Onion: Finely dice the onion and place in a bowl. Use sweet onions for mild flavor or yellow onions for a stronger taste.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugar, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Whisk egg and milk together, then pour into dry mixture. Stir until smooth and thick but pourable. Fold in onions until coated.
  4. Heat Oil: In a skillet or deep pan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Test with a drop of batter—it should sizzle and rise.
  5. Fry Fritters: Drop spoonfuls of batter into oil, frying 6–8 fritters at a time. Cook 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Transfer to paper towels to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve: Garnish with chives or parsley. Serve warm with dipping sauce of choice.
