🎄 Homemade Christmas Eve Chocolate Eggnog 🍫✨
A rich, creamy holiday twist on classic eggnog—infused with cocoa, warm spices, and melted chocolate.
Ingredients
- 4 large egg yolks
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp Dutch-processed cocoa powder
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- ⅛ tsp ground nutmeg (plus more for garnish)
- ⅛ tsp fine sea salt
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- ½ cup finely chopped semi-sweet chocolate or chocolate chips
- Whipped cream & chocolate shavings (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Base: Whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick (2–3 min). Add cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to form a smooth paste.
- Heat Dairy: Warm milk and cream in saucepan until steaming (do not boil).
- Temper Eggs: Slowly whisk 1 cup hot milk into yolk mixture. Return combined mixture to saucepan with remaining milk.
- Cook Custard: Stir constantly over medium-low until thickened and 165°F (74°C), about 8–10 min. Do not boil.
- Melt Chocolate: Remove from heat. Stir in chopped chocolate and vanilla until smooth.
- Chill: Strain through fine sieve into bowl. Cover with plastic wrap directly on surface. Refrigerate ≥4 hrs until cold.
- Serve: Stir well, pour into glasses, and top with whipped cream, nutmeg, and chocolate shavings.
