Ingredients:

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • Extra butter for layering (about 1/2 cup cold butter)
  • 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add warm milk, warm water, egg, and softened butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Spread the cold butter over 2/3 of the dough, then fold like a letter (in thirds).
  5. Chill for 20 minutes, then repeat the folding and chilling process twice more.
  6. Roll out the dough into a circle and cut into triangles.
  7. Roll each triangle tightly from the wide end to form a crescent shape.
  8. Place on a baking tray, cover, and let rise again for 45 minutes.
  9. Brush with egg wash and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Tip 💡:

For an extra buttery flavor, brush them with melted butter right after baking!
