Ingredients

  • 700 g (1½ lb) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1½ cups orzo pasta
  • 1½ cups Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

Directions 👩‍🍳

  1. Sear chicken: Heat olive oil in a skillet. Sear chicken on both sides until lightly golden. Transfer to crockpot.
  2. Sauté aromatics: In the same skillet, cook onion and garlic until fragrant. Add to crockpot.
  3. Add liquids: Pour in chicken broth and heavy cream. Stir in thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. Cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours, until chicken is tender.
  5. Add orzo: Stir in orzo during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Ensure pasta absorbs liquid and becomes tender.
  6. Finish: Stir in Gruyère cheese until melted and creamy.
  7. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and enjoy hot.

  • Extra creamy: Add 2 tbsp cream cheese along with Gruyère.
  • Variation: Substitute Gruyère with Swiss or Fontina cheese.
