Ingredients
The Dough
- 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk
- ÂĽ cup (60 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg (room temperature)
The Filling
- 1½ cups shredded cheese (Mozzarella, Cheddar, or Feta)
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley or green onions, finely chopped
- 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
Instructions 👩‍🍳
- Prepare dough: In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Knead until smooth and elastic (8–10 minutes). Cover and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Roll out: Punch down dough and roll into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
- Add filling: Spread softened butter over dough. Sprinkle evenly with shredded cheese and herbs.
- Shape: Roll dough into a log. Slice lengthwise, twist the two halves together, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Second rise: Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake: Brush with egg wash. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and cheese is bubbling.
- Serve: Cool slightly, slice, and enjoy warm.
