Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Red and green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Make Dough: Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to wet mixture until combined.
  3. Add Color: Divide dough into portions. Knead in red and green food coloring until evenly distributed.
  4. Chill: Wrap dough portions in plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least 1 hour until firm.
  5. Shape & Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll dough to ¼ inch thick. Cut shapes with cookie cutters. Place on parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  6. Cool: Let cookies cool on baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
  7. Decorate (Optional): Once cooled, decorate with icing, sprinkles, or toppings of choice.

Tips for Success

  • Chill dough to prevent spreading.
  • No cookie cutters? Roll dough into balls, flatten slightly, and bake.
  • Prefer one color? Combine all dough together before rolling.
