Ingredients

- ½ cup brown sugar

- 1 tsp vanilla extract

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- ½ cup crushed candy canes (for mixing + topping)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream Butter & Sugars: Beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in egg, vanilla, and peppermint extract until combined.
- Prepare Dry Mix: Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Combine: Gradually add dry mixture to wet mixture, stirring until dough forms.
- Fold In: Stir in chocolate chips and half of the crushed candy canes.
- Shape: Scoop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake 8–10 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft.
- Top: Sprinkle with remaining crushed candy canes while warm.
