Ingredients
- 1 large onion, finely diced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for extra crispiness)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 large egg
- Oil for frying
- Chopped chives or parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Onion: Finely dice the onion and place in a bowl. Use sweet onions for mild flavor or yellow onions for a stronger taste.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugar, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Whisk egg and milk together, then pour into dry mixture. Stir until smooth and thick but pourable. Fold in onions until coated.
- Heat Oil: In a skillet or deep pan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Test with a drop of batter—it should sizzle and rise.
- Fry Fritters: Drop spoonfuls of batter into oil, frying 6–8 fritters at a time. Cook 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Transfer to paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve: Garnish with chives or parsley. Serve warm with dipping sauce of choice.
