Ingredients
For the Cake
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
For the Ganache
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 8 oz dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Preheat: Set oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
- Bake: Divide batter between pans. Bake 30โ35 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
- Ganache: Heat cream in saucepan until just simmering. Pour over chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth, then add butter.
- Assemble: Frost cooled cakes with ganache. Stack layers and cover the entire cake generously.
