Ingredients:
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup butter (softened)
- Extra butter for layering (about 1/2 cup cold butter)
- 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (for brushing)
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add warm milk, warm water, egg, and softened butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Spread the cold butter over 2/3 of the dough, then fold like a letter (in thirds).
- Chill for 20 minutes, then repeat the folding and chilling process twice more.
- Roll out the dough into a circle and cut into triangles.
- Roll each triangle tightly from the wide end to form a crescent shape.
- Place on a baking tray, cover, and let rise again for 45 minutes.
- Brush with egg wash and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Tip 💡:
For an extra buttery flavor, brush them with melted butter right after baking!
