Ham and Cheese Rolls

Soft, golden rolls filled with melted cheese and savory ham — a bakery-style favorite perfect for breakfast, snacks, or parties!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 200 g sliced ham (chopped)
  • 200 g shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
  • 1 egg yolk + 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the dough: Add eggs, salt, and butter. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
  3. Let it rise: Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the rolls: Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread the chopped ham and cheese, then roll it up tightly. Cut into pieces and place on a greased tray.
  5. Second rise: Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  6. Brush and bake: Brush with egg wash and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Serve: Let cool slightly and enjoy warm — soft, cheesy, and delicious!

Tips

  • Use puff pastry instead of dough for a flakier version.
  • Add mustard or cream cheese inside for extra flavor.
  • These rolls can be frozen and reheated later — still taste fresh!
